Happy Sunday guys, who else is sad that the weekend is over? I am sad though but then it means it’s time to work to achieve them goals.
So, I’m back with another guest post and this one is all about blogging i.e. blogging 101 for newbie bloggers like me (even though I’m almost in my first year of blogging).
A lot of oldie bloggers weren’t privileged to have other bloggers to show them the way or guide them through, I count myself lucky to have a blogger mentor in the person BENNY MAKACHI. Yup, you heard right, she’s my mentor and I’m super excited to share her with you guys (mind you I’m not big on sharing though, so relish this rare gift I give you, lol.)
So enough of my rambling, let’s get to meet Benny as she’ll be telling us about the lessons learned and challenges faced from blogging so far. LEGGO!!!
1. WHO IS BENNY MAKACHI?
I am Benny Makachi. I am a passionate woman, finding herself and striking balance in-between things. I am a lover, a giver; who believes in purpose, empathy, kindness, a solid spiritual life and living well.
2. HOW OLD IS YOUR BLOG?
I started blogging actively in March 2017. Although I blogged for quite some time before then; I got my domain in 2017, that was when I began to take blogging serious.
3. IN YOUR NEXT LIFE WOULD YOU CHOOSE TO BE A BLOGGER AND WHY?
I haven’t given thought to a next life or what I’d like to do in my next life if there’s actually something like that. So, can we focus on this life in front of me right now? *lol*
4. A LOT OF NEWBIE BLOGGERS TEND TO GET FRUSTRATED ABOUT THE WHOLE BLOGGING PROCESS, CAN YOU JUST SHARE A LITTLE BIT OF YOUR BLOGGING PROCESS.
The truth is that blogging is different for different people. What I struggle with may not be what the next person struggles with, that’s not to say there’s absence of common challenges or process. Let me just say that my blogging process have consisted of me learning the ropes as I go. Also, I’m lucky to have few friends who are bloggers. We laugh at ourselves, learn, and teach each other. All of these come together to make my blogging process less daunting.
5. TO YOU, WHAT IS THE HARDEST THING ABOUT BLOGGING?
Consistency, connecting with other creatives genuinely, blazing traffic and profiting immensely from my niche.
6. THROUGH YOUR BLOG JOURNEY, WHAT IS THE ONE THING YOU DISCOVERED AND WISHED OTHER “OLD BLOGGERS” TOLD YOU ABOUT?
I realize that I rarely asked bloggers who aren’t close friends stuff about blogging; still don’t (old habits die hard or perhaps because I know that not all are as gracious or accommodating as they seemingly appear). Like I said before…I learn the ropes as I go. However, I’ll say I wish I knew how vital it is to find a niche and curate content according to that.
7. ONE MAJOR THING WE’RE BEING TOLD ABOUT BLOGGING IS THAT “CONSISTENCY IS KEY”, BUT EVEN WITH CONSISTENCY SOMETIMES THERE IS NO APPRECIATION. HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THIS?
Blogging is tough especially now that we have new bloggers coming up by the dozens. The way I deal with this is by reminding myself that hard work and consistency pays eventually. For some people it happens early while for others it happens later. If blogging is what you love to do then keep at it, reinvent yourself from time to time. I find comfort knowing that as long as I consistently put out quality work that leaves an impact, it will eventually pay. The right person will catch it someday.
8. FOR NEWBIES WITHOUT A DOMAIN, HOW WOULD YOU ADVICE THAT THEY GO ABOUT CREATING GREAT CONTENT AND KEEPING THEIR READERS ENGAGED?
I’ll always be sincere with rookies. Invest in yourself and your blog, it may seem like it’s an expensive fit but when you get a domain your perspective changes, you know, you pay annually; thus you’ll have no choice than to create quality content that are SEO friendly and the likes. Off the chance that you’re not ready for that, then read wide, research, visit other blogs that you can genuinely identify with or those you aspire to be like, take note of what they are doing right; apply it to your work with a full dose of your uniqueness, take clear appealing photos, write relevant contents. Then watch good things happen.
9. HOW HAVE YOU BEEN ABLE TO STAY UNIQUE IN YOUR NICHE?
This has to be the easiest part. I stay unique by being my authentic self, it helps that I reinvent myself from time to time.
10. WHAT LESSON FROM BLOGGING DID YOU LEARN THE HARD WAY?
I am probably the least techie person you’ll know, the hardest thing I’ve had to learn is realizing how essential it is to know a thing for two about front-end, back-end, plugins and the rest (basically, a little knowledge about the tech kinds of stuff won’t hurt). There won’t always be someone at your disposal to resolve such issues when they arise, unless you’ve got money to throw around. Make techies, Google and YouTube your besties.
11. WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST BLOGGING CHALLENGE AND HOW DID OVERCOME THIS?
I still battle with being consistent. It’s safe to say I’m a ‘work in progress.’
12. WHAT CAN YOU SAY ABOUT SPONSORED POSTS AND HOW DO YOU GET BRANDS TO WORK WITH YOU?
Right now, I’m not at a point where I’m collaborating or working with brands on sponsored posts (personal reasons). Nonetheless, when I’m ready for that, it definitely would be about quality and impact than quantity. My advise for bloggers is to find brands that resonate with them, review brand products, mention the brands on said posts, send out a cold email not minding how big the brand is or how slim the chances of a favorable response may seem. Don’t forget to always be sincere, secure the bag but not at the expense of your readers.
AMAZING, SO THAT’S IT GUYS ON BLOGGING 101, BLOGGING 202 COMING SOON. ANYWAYS TIME FOR SOME RANDOM QUESTIONS:
13. LOL, WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU WASH IN THE SHOWER?
My face. Every time I get in the shower, it’s the first thing I wash. It never gets old. What do you wash first? *Lol*
THE FIRST THING I WASH IS MY TUMMY (WEIRD ABI, LOL)
14. WHAT IS YOUR DRUNKEN STORY?
I’m not huge on alcohol these days, I can barely take in a shot. A few years ago, when I recently stopped alcohol; I went out to chill with friends, threw a couple shots back, got home and the room was spinning like crazy, I kept shouting my friends’ name to come to my aid and hold the room steady (mind you, I was the only one in the apartment). SMH!
15. QUOTE YOU LIVE BY.
Life is a living thing! (Want to know why? Visit my blog).
